Privacy & device safety

Financial and family information can be sensitive. Here's how PlanMyDivorce works.

Entries stay in the open browser tab

The planning tools, including the contacts shortlist, run in JavaScript within your browser. The values you enter are not sent to PlanMyDivorce servers and are not stored in a database or saved to local storage. Reloading or closing a page clears the entries.

Guided planning and encrypted progress files

The guided plan combines your situation, estimated budgets, practical tasks, optional support preferences and contact information into a PDF you download by choice. The optional progress-save feature uses your browser’s Web Crypto functions to encrypt a downloadable file with a password you choose; PlanMyDivorce does not receive the password or file. Restore decrypts the file in your browser. Losing the file or password means the progress cannot be recovered from us.

The guided planner also offers a shorter discussion PDF. It omits private priorities, wellbeing and safety answers, and professional contacts, but still contains your estimated financial details and planning items. Review any report carefully before sharing it, and only share when it is safe to do so.

What happens when you download or print

If you select Download or Print, the file or printed page is created by your own device. Downloaded files can remain in Downloads, cloud-synced folders, backups, printer queues or shared-device histories. Use a private device and a safe place to store the documents.

Shared device warning

If another person may monitor or access your device, consider whether it's safe to enter sensitive financial details or download worksheets. Using a private browsing window does not make a monitored device safe.

Lawyer and firm searches

Our lawyer finder lets you type a place and search external professional directories or Google Maps. When you click an external search, your search terms and information such as IP address are handled by the directory or search provider under its own privacy policy. We do not collect the results. You manually enter any contacts you wish to save into your personal shortlist. Those entries stay in the current browser tab and can be downloaded as a locally generated PDF.

What the website may receive

We do not ask for your identity, require login, or collect your planning inputs. However, a web host may process ordinary request information such as IP addresses, timestamps and technical logs when you visit any website. It would be inaccurate to promise that no information is processed anywhere. PlanMyDivorce uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-JFHGEXBHRG) on public information pages only, including the homepage, guides and resources. Analytics measures page visits, device types, approximate geography and sources of traffic. The Google tag is not loaded on the private guided planner, budget tools, conversation planner, asset organizer or lawyer finder. We do not send visitor-entered names, financial figures, private answers, professional contacts or generated PDFs to Google Analytics. The Analytics page address excludes URL query strings and fragments. Google Analytics may set cookies and process technical identifiers; we disable Google Signals and advertising personalisation in this integration. More information is in Google's Privacy Policy.

Regional analytics choice

For visitors identified as being in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google Analytics is not loaded unless they choose Allow using the optional preference controls in the footer of our public pages. Elsewhere, Analytics may run on public pages without an initial prompt, but you can choose Decline using Analytics settings in the footer. Visitors who decline can use the website normally. Where the region cannot be determined, Analytics remains off. These controls do not replace any additional privacy obligations that may apply under local law.

To determine the visitor's country category, our server uses available hosting/CDN information or checks an IP address using ipwho.is. The lookup service receives an IP address for that purpose; it is separate from the personal planning tools. A country-category result may be cached locally in your browser for up to six hours, and an Analytics choice for up to 180 days. No planning entries are included in that request. Website hosting may retain routine access logs.

Countries currently supported

PlanMyDivorce currently provides general planning tools and selected legal-information and support links for Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom (with distinct legal systems), Canada, New Zealand and Ireland. Country-specific legal advice is not provided. Visitors from other locations should consult their own official services; we do not present unsupported locations as having verified guidance.

Not legal advice

The materials are general organizational resources, not legal, financial or safety advice. Official requirements can change and depend on where you live.
